I just came off the stage at PRSA ICON, where we launched Moore's 2027 M.Cast™ Trends Report to a room full of communicators. We’re all wrestling with the same question: How do we move fast with AI without losing the thing that makes us worth choosing?
Here's what I told them — and what I think every leader needs to sit with before the year turns.
The thesis: 2027 is an AI hinge year
For years, AI worked at the edges of how we communicate. In 2027, it moves into the middle. It stands between brands and their customers, between leaders and the public, between employers and the people they hire, and even between workers and their own thinking. More of how your audiences find you, judge you, and choose you will run through a machine first.
That's why every trend in this year's report starts from the same place: where machine work meets human work. Autonomous agents and near-zero cost to execute are on one side. Trust, judgment, creativity, and accountability are on the other. What decides outcomes is the space in between, where humans conduct the machines and governance sets the rules they run by.
Human & machine. Led by humans.
Trust runs through all seven
One finding surprised us in our research. When we scored and validated all seven trends, trust showed up in every one. So every trend in the 2027 report carries its own Trust Factor: a focused look at what the shift demands of the trust you've already built and the trust you still have to earn.
Trust runs in three directions at once. Your people must trust you, you must trust their judgment, and all of us should be careful about trusting the machine.
Put plainly, trust is becoming the operating system of growth. It determines who gets believed, chosen, and recommended by both people and machines.
The trends of 2027
These are the seven shifts we expect to shape 2027. They cover how people work, influence, live, think, create, buy, and measure what matters.

What this asks of leaders
Leading through these trends requires holding two commitments at the same time: Move quickly with AI while protecting the judgment, relationships, and trust that make your organization worth choosing. Either commitment alone falls short.
Foresight gives leaders a decision edge. Weak signals are cheap to act on; once a trend is obvious, the advantage is already priced in. That's why futurist thinking has become a core leadership skill, and why we build M.Cast the way we do: to be practical, repeatable, and tied to decisions you're making this year.
